Teacher Internships in Plant Genomics, University of Arizona
The Teacher Internships in Plant Genomics Program (TIPG) is designed to provide pre-service and in-service biology teachers with university-based lab experience in plant genomics at the University of Arizona. Through this program, Teacher Interns are placed in UA plant genomics labs for an eight-week summer research internship. The interns are paired with an experienced graduate student, post-doctoral fellow, or faculty member who serves as the intern's mentor. During the internship, Teacher Interns are expected to work a minimum of 20 hours per week (preferably 40) for 8 weeks on a component of their mentor's research. The Teacher Interns also meet once a week to discuss their research and to develop relevant teaching materials (schedule). During the internship, the Teacher Interns are expected to produce a poster, which is presented at a poster session at the end of July, summarizing the project on which they are working.

The BIOTECH Project
The BIOTECH Project was started at the University of Arizona in the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology with funding from the Flinn Foundation. The Project assists teachers in using biotechnology techniques in their classrooms to have students answer novel research questions. We also provide material and equipment support, the Project has created a mobile laboratory with the equipment and supplies needed for biotechnology experiments. Through sustained partnerships with the BIOTECH Project, teachers acquire the expertise to use biotechnology in the classroom to investigate the world around us.

The Undergraduate Biology Research Program (UBRP)
The Undergraduate Biology Research Program (UBRP) is the center of a web of science education activities that links persons of all ages and educational levels. The original focus of the program initiated in 1988, was to provide paid, year round research experience to undergraduate students. Participating UA faculty members provide half of the students' wages and all of the students' research supplies. The other half of the students' wages is paid by external grants secured by the program. Students can choose to work with any of 223 faculty members drawn from 43 departments. Each summer, 140 students participate.

The Biology Project
The Biology Project is an online resource for learning biology. It was created for biology students at the college level, but is also useful for medical students, physicians, science writers, high school students, and others. The non-linear presentation is designed to help maintain student attention, promote learning interest, and enhance the retention of the learned material. The instructional design is based on cognitive learning theories, perception and memory.

General Biology Program
General Biology Program is a summer program for middle and high school biology teachers offering courses and research opportunities in various areas of biology and biology education. The program, which began in 1993, is focused on developing lab activities for teachers to bring back to their schools. Teachers may work toward a Master's Degree in General Biology, or they may participate in a Summer Program for Teachers of Biological Science, a non-degree program.
